If you're looking for a terrifying trip to the theatre, you've come to the right place. We're always striving to provide you with ideal moviegoing experiences, and AMC Thrills & Chills brings the best in horror and suspense to your favorite AMC Theatre. The selection of films will cover a variety of styles and genres from all corners of the globe, with the intention of sharing one thing in common: exploring the things that scare you the most. Let’s take a look at the upcoming thrillers and horror movies that are scheduled to release in 2024 as part of the AMC Thrills & Chills series.
Some of the most iconic horror movies are associated with a certain holiday — most notably John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN and BLACK CHRISTMAS from the 1970s or, more recently, Eli Roth’s THANKSGIVING in 2023. Director Erik Bloomquist and his brother and co-writer, Carson, are continuing that long-honored tradition by debuting a new “celebratory slasher” in 2024 called FOUNDERS DAY.
In January, gorehounds will be introduced to a new masked, gavel-pounding killer referred to as “The Founder” — according to The Hollywood Reporter — whose spree coincides with the anniversary of a quaint small town, during which a pivotal mayoral election is also taking place. The politically-fueled thriller stars Naomi Grace from “N.C.I.S.”, “13 Reasons Why’s” David Druid, and William Russ of “Boy Meets World” fame.
FOUNDERS DAY opens January 19
As the lead of 2012’s PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4, her more recent turn in FREAKY from 2020, and appearances in TV thrillers like “Supernatural” and Netflix’s “The Society,” Kathryn Newton has cemented herself as one of her generation’s most talented Scream Queens. She continues her reign in February in the title role of LISA FRANKENSTEIN.
From Academy Award®-winning writer Diablo Cody and first-time director Zelda Williams — daughter of Robin Williams — this dark, coming-of-age comedy loosely reimagines Mary Shelley’s landmark horror novel as a darkly comedic coming-of-age romance running hot with ‘80s nostalgia. Newton’s character, Lisa, sees her life change forever when she falls in love with a boy, played by Cole Sprouse, whose life was no more until a bizarre series of events brings him back.
LISA FRANKENSTEIN opens February 9
In 2023, Blumhouse showed us how seemingly family-friendly objects can be deadly with the technophobic surprise hit M3GAN — which also has a sequel set for 2025 — and their big screen adaptation of the FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S video games. The studio will continue to explore that concept in 2024 with the March release of IMAGINARY.
From Jeff Wadlow — the director of KICK-ASS 2 and Blumhouse’s 2020 take on FANTASY ISLAND — this creepy tale stars DeWanda Wise as a woman forced to confront a past memory when she returns to her childhood home and finds her old teddy bear named Chauncey. However, he turns out to be the kind of child’s plaything that might have audiences thinking twice before they reach for their stuffed animal for comfort at night.
Remind Me IMAGINARY opens March 8
In 1976, the late filmmaker Richard Donner proved to the world that even the most terrifying evil can come from the most unexpected of places — or people — in the shocking classic, THE OMEN. For the first time we will discover how the birth of Damien Thorn came to be in the upcoming prequel, THE FIRST OMEN.
This April release marks the feature film debut of director Arkasha Stevenson — whose previous credits include FX’s surreal Marvel-inspired series, “Legion,” and Netflix’s witchy 2019 miniseries, “Brand New Cherry Flavor.” Also starring Oscar® nominee Bill Nighy and THE WITCH’s Ralph Ineson, the period thriller is led by “Servant’s” Nell Tiger Free as a woman who uncovers a conspiracy to bring about the Antichrist while working at a Roman church.
Remind Me THE FIRST OMEN opens April 5
While its usefulness is questionable, the purpose of astrology is to help guide the reader toward their greater destiny. However, what if your horoscopes actually turned out to be a warning of a grisly fate?
Such is the concept of HORRORSCOPE — Screen Gems’ adaptation of Nicholas Adams’ 1992 novel that, according to Bloody-Disgusting, is set to release in May. The horror-comedy follows a group of college students — including two played by THE INVITATION’s Alana Boden and the SPIDER-MAN movies’ Jacob Batalon — who grow desperate to prevent the horrifying scenarios they start to believe are “written in the stars” for them.
Remind Me HORRORSCOPE opens May 10
Co-writer, director, and star John Krasinski redefined the alien invasion genre and reminded moviegoers about the tension-building power of silence with 2018’s A QUIET PLACE and its follow-up from 2021. In June, fans will get to return to this terrifying, post-apocalyptic world with the release of A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE.
From the award-winning writer and director of PIG, Michael Sarnoski, this third installment of the acclaimed franchise will show a more in-depth look at the origins of the vicious, sound-hunting creatures’ invasion. Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn of “Stranger Things” fame lead the cast.
Remind Me A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE opens June 28
As you can see, there are plenty of “thrills and chills” to look forward to this year. Check them out when they come to an AMC Theatres location near you!
